Makeli Ella Water Falls

Makeli ella is a very popular waterfall in Western Province, Kaluthara district. This small beauty is created by a branch river Makeli Oya which belongs to Kalu Ganga. This can be easily reachable from a main road. The 10m Makeli Ella Fall is said to resemble a bride's veil from a distance, and round weather-eroded granite stones pepper the landscape. Before the fall there is a large natural pool, and 6m downstream a fairytale-like islet watershed, known as Thumodara. Pahiyangala Pre Historic Cave

Fa Hien Cave, also Pahiyangala Cave is situated in the district of Kalutara. According to a rural legend, named after an alleged resident during historical times, namely Buddhist monk Faxian (also Fa-Hien, or Fa Hsien). Nonetheless, the site is of archaeological significance as Late Pleistocene human fossilized skeletal remains were discovered in the cave's sediments during excavations in the 1960s, the 1980s and in 2013. The finds mainly consisted of microlith stone tools, remnants of prehistoric fireplaces and organic material, such as floral and human remains. Radiocarbon dating indicates that the cave had been occupied from about 33,000 years ago, the Late Pleistocene and Mesolithic to 4,750 years ago, the Neolithic in the Middle Holocene.

Kukuleganga River

In the southwest of Sri Lanka, in the Sabaragamuwa Province, is a river known as the Kukuleganga River. Along the river is the Kukule Ganga Dam and reservoir. This river, which has a basin area of 31,000 ha (120 sq. m), an average annual rainfall of 3,800 mm (150 in), and an annual water yield of 976,000 ha/m (735,000 acre/ft.), is used to power the Kukule Ganga Dam. The Kukulegaga River meanders through verdant, lush environments, its waters reflecting the sun's rays. Its banks are dotted with tall, swaying trees that create dappled shadows on the glistening water below.

Thudugala Ella

The Thudugala Ella waterfall is located in Thudugala village in Dodangoda. Out of around 382 recorded waterfalls in Sri Lanka, the rank of this is 268th. The fall, which has become a famous bathing place, is situated in an estate once owned by a British and his wrecked country house can still be seen there. There is also a natural stream pool surrounded by "Ketala" plants and fern. In the nearby forest reserve, there are many beautiful migratory birds and local birds, e.g. "pale bellied flower pecker", the smallest bird in the country. Another fascination here is that a tunnel runs under the waterfall and comes out on top at one side of it. The route to the waterfall starts from Katukurunda Junction off the Galle Road; 5 miles (8.0 km) from there on Matugama Road to Thudugala junction and from there 8 miles (12.9 km) to the waterfall

Richmond Castle, built at the turn of the century in Kalutara, is considered one of the most spectacular architectural works of the period. It was the property of a wealthy landowner turned philanthropist, Padikara Mudali Nanayakkara Rajawasala Appuhamilage Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena. The mansion stands majestically at top of a hill, on a 42 acre estate beside the Kalutara-Palatota Road. Once a circuit bungalow for high ranking officers of the British administrative service, today it is a popular tourist attraction, and serves as an educational centre for less privileged children of Kalutara and the vicinity.

Beruwala Light House

Barberyn Lighthouse (also known as Beruwala Lighthouse) is located on Barberyn Island. Barberyn Island a 3.25 ha (8.0 acres) island situated 0.8 km (0.50 mi) offshore from the town of Beruwala on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, 56 km (35 mi) south of Colombo. The lighthouse is a 34 m (112 ft) high round white conical granite tower. The lighthouse was completed in November 1889 and operated by the Imperial Lighthouse Service. In 1969 it was upgraded with the replacement of the old dioptric apparatus (produced by Chance Brothers) and with a pedestal rotating beacon (Pharos Marine PRB-21 sealed beam optic and drive pedestal). It was further modernised in 2000, with the introduction of a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) and is computer linked to the other major lighthouses around the country. Pahurukanda temple is an ancient temple with a vibrant history. According to the historians, King Manabharana who got defeated in the fight with Wikramabhahu fled to Pasyodunrata with his brothers Kithsirimegha and Sri Wallabha. And got protection there.
